IOSHH Working Safely

Working safely meets the government's guidelines for introductory health and safety training and is a 100 per cent match to the Health and Safety Executive's 'passport' syllabus.

Who should attend the IOSH Working Safely course?

Working safely is for people at any level, in any sector, needing grounding in the essentials ofhealth and safety. Everyone at work should have an understanding of why they must ‘work safely’ – and this course offers exactly that.

It can be used as preparation training for the CITB Health, safety and environment test or as refresher training. This course is the first step towards a CSCS Labourers Card (Green Card).

What are the benefits of attending IOSH Working Safely training? Delegates will be able to carry out the following:

  • Carry out work activities without risk to themselves or others and understand the consequences if they fail to work safely

  • Identify hazards, risks and risk controls and understand the importance of risk assessment with examples of everyday use of risk assessment

IOSHH Managing Safely

Who should go on Managing Safely?

Managing safely is for managers and supervisors in any sector, and any organisation. It’sdesigned to get managers up to speed on the practical actions they need to take to handle health and safety in their teams.

What will they get out of it?

What they need to know – and are perhaps reluctant to learn about – in a refreshingly informal way. Managing safely won’t turn delegates into safety experts – but it will give them the knowledge and tools to tackle the health and safety issues they’re responsible for.

Importantly, it brings home just why health and safety is such an essential part of their job. Successful delegates are awarded an IOSH Managing Safely certificate.

Modules:
1. Introducing Managing Safely

Some managers may see health and safety as an add-on to their role even an intrusion. The first module makes it clear that managers are accountable for their teams, and makes a persuasive case for managing safely.

2. Assessing risks

This module defines and demystifies ‘risk’ and ‘risk assessment’. Risk assessments and asimple scoring system are introduced, and delegates carry out a series of assessments.

3. Controlling risks

Here the session tackles cutting risks down, concentrating on the best techniques to control key risks, and how to choose the right method.

4. Understanding your responsibilities

This module looks at the demands of the law and how the legal system works, and introduces a health and safety management system.

5. Identifying hazards

All the main issues any operation has to deal with are covered in this module – entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise, housekeeping and the working environment, slips, trips and falls, working at height, computer sand manual handling.

6. Investigating accidents and incidents

The session starts with why accidents should be investigated, and goes onto cover why things go wrong, and how to carry out an investigation when they do.

7. Measuring performance

This module explains how checking performance can help to improve health and safety. Delegates learn how to develop basic performance indicators, and get to grips with auditing and proactive and reactive measuring.

Level 7 Leadership and Management

The ILM Level 7 Certificate and Diploma in Leadership and Management are designed for senior managers and leaders seeking to develop themselves as leaders and managers, who recognise they must satisfy various stakeholders and who want to invest in their own personal brand.

They are looking to make the best use of resources, understand the need to innovate and optimise performance. They may also have to present arguments for change, construct business cases, lead change implementation and evaluate the impact of that change.

    The Certificate in Leadership and Management consists of one, flexible, mandatory unit that allows the learner to identify and work on the areas of leadership and management development specific to their own work context and of particular interest and relevance.

    The Diploma in Leadership and Management consists of two additional mandatory units. The first focuses on presenting arguments for change, constructing business cases and leading change implementation, the second on the creation and maintenance of high performance cultures. The Diploma is 60 credits which is equivalent to a PG Certificate and one third of a Masters in most UK university business schools.

Level Award in 3 Leadership & Management

The Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Leadership and Management are ideal for individuals who have management responsibilities but no formal training and are serious about developing their abilities. They particularly support practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management, and managers who need to lead people though organisational change, budget cuts or other pressures.

Level 3 Coaching and Mentoring

This qualification is designed for managers seeking to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to coach and mentor people as part of their normal role. It’s also the ideal starting point for a career in coaching and mentoring.

    There are two mandatory units in this qualification which focus on understanding good practice in workplace coaching and mentoring. They introduce what coaches and mentors do, the processes they follow and the qualities and abilities individuals need to be effective in these roles.

    The learners complete the qualification with two additional units. The first deals with reflecting on own skills as a coach or mentor in the workplace. And in second the learner plans and carries out 36 hours of either coaching or mentoring, with supervision and support.

    Learners must gain 16 credits to achieve this qualification with:• Two mandatory units (6 credits)

Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management for the Construction and Built Environment Sector

These non-technical qualifications are aimed at team leaders, supervisors, foremen and site managers or anyone seeking to gain a thorough understanding of management and leadership principles to effectively lead, supervise and safely manage staff within the expanding built environment and construction industry.

The Certificate is suitable for practising team leaders and supervisors as well as those looking for promotion and/or for those identified through talent management programmes, the opportunity to formally develop and consolidate their skills through an industry benchmark qualification.
